With the introduction of the AyrMesh HubDuo, our first dual-band AyrMesh Hub, we have also introduced the new concept of HubDuo Modes.
You can set the Mode for your HubDuo devices in your account on AyrMesh.com:
(The "HubDuo Mode" pull-down will only appear if you have at least one HubDuo in your account)
There are four modes that can be set for your HubDuo units: Normal mode, Close mode (for cases when the Hubs are less than half a mile apart), Hybrid mode (for networks with both nearby HubDuo devices and Hub2 devices further away), and Access Point mode (to turn meshing off entirely.
Normal mode uses the 2.4 GHz. radio for meshing, so the meshing is compatible with the AyrMesh Hub2 products (AyrMesh Hub2n, Hub2T, Hub2x2, and Hub2x2C):
Close mode is for installations where the AyrMesh Hubs need to be placed less than half a mile apart (the minimum typical distance between AyrMesh Hub2 units). This moves the meshing signal from the 2.4 GHz. radio to the 5.8 GHz. radio, enabling significantly higher bandwidth, but limiting the range of the meshing signal. This allows the HubDuos to be placed as close as 100 yards apart (up to about 800 yards):
Hybrid mode uses both the 2.4 GHz. mesh and the 5.8 GHz. mesh on the Gateway HubDuo, but only the 5.8 GHz. mesh on the Remote HubDuos. This allows you to have a "dense" cloud of HubDuo units "close in" to the Gateway, but a much more "sparse" cloud of Hub2 units further away:
The "Close" setting is designed for rural businesses like Nurseries and some specialty crops, which have extensive central processing facilities that require a "dense" group of access points. The "Hybrid" mode is designed for specialty farms like orchards and vineyards that have both extensive central facilities and hundreds or thousands of acres of cropland.
There is also an "Access Point only" mode that turns meshing off entirely - this is useful in environments where there are wired, fiber, or wireless connections existing between different areas on the farm, so outdoor WiFi is needed but not meshing.
